Contemplative Organ

Contemplative Organ is a series of paintings that explores volumetric form in a constructivist manner. Most biomorphic abstraction of the past used nature as the springboard for the exploration of form. With Contemplative Organ the work begins with a simple curvilinear drawing that is a direct response to the formal properties of the rectangle. The shapes within this refined flat composition are then “brought to life” using the sculpting tools of 3-D computer modeling. The final painting brings the imagined and invented form back to the alchemical level through painting. This process creates a living non-objective image that is formally refined and yet strikes a dissonant cord. This new space is familiar yet unsettling. Beautiful yet provocative.
